Milan, Italy, is known as the world's capital for fashion, furniture, contemporary and vintage art, is the hub of the country's economy, and has many interesting and historic buildings with outstanding architecture to view and explore.

Those who love fashion make pilgrimages to Milan to shop at designers' original stores and boutiques. If they want to save money, they can browse through discount outlets to find bargains in last season's styles, samples, and seconds.

The spectacular Cathedral is the world's second largest Catholic cathedral and its
largest Gothic cathedral. The Gothic west front took 200 years to complete from its start in 1616. The building is brick faced with marble, has five wide naves, and its windows are said to be the world's largest. Forty thousand people can be held inside this elaborate and famous building. Renovations went on for years to clean the outstanding facade, and that was completed in 2009 so the cathedral's beauty can be appreciated in all its glory. You can climb stairs or take an elevator to the roof to see up close the pinnacles and sculptures as well as the magnificent views. The city's original street plan shows that the cathedral was the most important site because streets either circle the Duomo or radiate from it.

The ROMAN AMPHITHEATER was built between the first and second centuries BC. About 35,000 people could come to view the bloody spectacles, but those were stopped at the end of the fourth century. They began to demolish this theater and use the stones in other buildings. There are only traces of the foundations that supported the structure, but an archaeological park is planned to give people a closer look.

The Castello Sforzesco is an outstanding castle and museum with a beautiful park and gardens. It is breathtaking at night when lights shine on it with its towers and architecture. Leonardo Da Vinci painted a ceiling and frescoes here and also worked with another man to build a beautiful bridge overlooking the outer moat. The castle was built, demolished, and rebuilt many times; and the current renovations and embellishments of this original fortress that later became a luxurious castle are magnificent. Just one of its museums holds vintage musical instruments. Other museums inside include Art, Print, Archeological, Prehistoric, Egyptian, Ancient Art, Furniture, etc.

The Museo Inter E Milan adds humor to your trip with cartoonish papier-mache dummies of 24 of Milan's football stars, trophies, and non-stop videos. You can take a stadium tour which includes the football locker room.

The Civico Acquario is Europe's third oldest aquarium and has an Art Nouveau facade in an aquatic theme. Fish are on display even in an archway!

Football is very big in Milan. Two home town teams, AC Milan and Inter, pack the San Siro stadium on Sundays during their season.

The cuisine in Milan is magnificent in its outstanding restaurants as well as cafes along the canal and old-fashioned gelaterie (ice cream) shops.
